About Wairarapa Islamic Community Trust

Wairarapa Islamic Community Trust fundraising for a Masjid in Carterton, Wairarapa, New Zealand. The Wairarapa Islamic Community Trust, based in the Wairarapa, the Wellington Region, has signed a sale and purchase agreement to buy a property at 9 Belvedere Road, Carterton, located in the heart of the Wairarapa. The property is intended to serve as a permanent place of worship and a community gathering space.

Land Area: 845 SQM, Building Area: 300 SQM, Capacity: 400 people

The Trust is raising funds to complete the purchase and has set a total fundraising goal of $320,000, with a deposit of $100,000 due on 30 June 2026. Members of the community are currently contributing approximately $1,000 per week, with all donations placed into a dedicated property fund used solely for the purchase of the building.

The aim of the project is to establish a Mosque that can support regular worship services as well as community-focused activities. A permanent property will allow us to better serve both our congregation and the wider community. It gives us the opportunity to offer a consistent and welcoming space for gatherings and support initiatives.

The fundraising effort is being overseen by the Trust’s leadership, with a strong emphasis on transparency and responsible financial management. Regular updates are being provided to members and supporters on progress toward the goal.

The Muslim community has grown significantly over the past 10 years from just a few members to almost 100 in 2025. We are a diverse and inclusive community that brings together people from ten different countries. The Trust has expressed its sincere appreciation for the generosity and commitment shown by its supporters and confirmed that fundraising efforts will continue until the target is reached.
